Pregnancy and Corona virus

Pregnancy and Coronavirus

Coronavirus is a family of viruses that can cause respiratory symptoms similar to the common cold and seasonal flu. Symptoms range from mild to severe. COVID-19 is the name given to the disease caused by this year’s outbreak of a new strain of coronavirus.

MODE OF SPREAD OF VIRUS:

The new coronavirus spreads from person to person via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes especially when people are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).

Pregnant women experience immunologic changes which make them more susceptible to viral respiratory infections, including COVID-19. It’s not clear if a COVID-19 infection could harm an unborn child, although high fevers during the first trimester can be detrimental.

  1. Pregnancy is a time when your immunity is highly compromised.
